UTSA Southwest School of Art offers classes for artists of every age

For over 50 years, UTSA Southwest School of Art (UTSA+SSA) has been a leader in visual arts education offering studio art programs for adults, children, and teens as well as a college program offering a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After months of impromptu home schooling, many parents are finding themselves in search of new activities to occupy young minds. UTSA Southwest School of Art can meet those needs through the School’s Young Artists Programs. These programs are currently offered in an online format to provide maximum safety for young artists while providing exciting activities led by engaging instructors. Classes are available for youth ages 5-18 of all skill levels, in a positive, nurturing, and fun environment, taught by professional artists and artist educators. Classes are divided by age group, so students receive instruction appropriate to their age group.

UTSA Southwest School of Art also offers classes for adults to explore their creativity as well. Classes in a variety of mediums from ceramics, painting, sculpture, metals, photography, and printmaking are offered for every skill level whether you’re a beginner, novice, or advanced artist. Each class is taught by our experienced full-time and adjunct faculty members who strive to provide personal attention for each student. A select number of classes will be available in the fall with some classes on-site and some online adhering to the City’s mandates during the COVID-19 crisis.

UTSA Southwest School of Art (SSA) is the only independent college of art in Texas offering the opportunity for students seeking an art degree to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts through the college program. UTSA Southwest School of Art is uniquely equipped to help students develop their own individualized, independent voices, while providing them the tools necessary to flourish in their careers.  Students receive a solid general education and share intense studio experiences in an intimate, art-focused environment.  At UTSA+SSA, every BFA faculty member is a working artist and each one is well connected and knowledgeable when it comes to the San Antonio art scene.
