Selma (pop 10,997) is a city in Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe Counties. It was settled in 1847 by immigrants from several European countries, most especially Germany and Poland. The name Selma is, in fact, a traditional German girl’s name. In 1849 the Harrison and Brown stagecoach line stop was built in Selma to handle passengers and freight on the San Antonio to Austin stagecoach line.
On I- (interstate)35, it crosses Cibolo Creek just sixteen miles northeast of San Antonio. When Selma was founded in the early 1850s, it boasted of two general stores, two cotton gins, three blacksmiths, a saloon and a wagon maker. It was incorporated in 1964.
School-aged children attend schools in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District.
