Converse (pop 29,231) is on Farm Road 1976, 13 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio. It was named for the chief engineer of the Southern Pacific Railroad, who in 1877 bought a tract of land including the city’s site. A post office was established in 1878.
Loop 1604, which circles San Antonio, separates the city from Randolph Air Force Base.
School-aged children attend schools in the Judson Independent School District.
