Fair Oaks Ranch was created from the properties of Ralph Fair, Sr., a rancher and oil man. The original 5,000 acres have been increased by a ETJ of 3,200 acres. Individual lots can range in size from approximately 0.20 acres up to, perhaps 15 acres. It is located 27 miles northwest of downtown San Antonio, mainly along IH-10, and 8 miles southeast of Boerne, and in three counties: Bexar, Kendall and Comal. It was incorporated in 1988 and has a population of 9,833 per the 2020 census.
The city is served by the award winning Boerne Independent School District. It has two parks and two nature trails and has a semi-rural atmosphere.
Fair Oaks Ranch has been consistently rated among the top 25 safest cities in Texas.
The Fair Oaks Ranch Country Club is a central point of social activity. It is now housed in what was the 14,000 square foot family home of Ralph Fair and operates two 18=hole golf courses, 14 tennis courts and three swimming pools.
