Shavano Park (pop 3,874) is approximately 15 miles north of downtown San Antonio, most directly north of San Antonio on N.W. Military Highway which neatly divides the city east and west.
Established as a stop on the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway, its general store was operated by A. DeZavala, the namesake of a main road in the area who later went on to become postmaster when the post office opened in 1881. Now Shavano Park is an established community of good sized and stylish houses, on good sized lots.
Children living in the area attend Northeast Independent School District schools.
