History and community character

Windcrest began taking shape in the 1950s after developer M.A. Winn Jr. purchased the first acreage in 1953. The first home followed in 1955, and the city incorporated in 1959. Careful planning, curved residential streets and community green spaces helped establish the attractive character residents still value today.

Windcrest’s best-known tradition began in 1960, when residents started decorating their homes for Christmas. The annual Windcrest Light-Up now brings elaborate displays, neighborhood participation and visitors from across the region. Fourth of July festivities, National Night Out, seasonal events and community programs keep that civic spirit active throughout the year.

Parks golf and recreation

Windcrest’s parks contribute to the city’s relaxed neighborhood atmosphere with places for walking, play, sports and community gatherings. Takas Park and Civic Center serve as an important recreation and event area, joined by smaller green spaces throughout the community.

Windcrest Golf Club adds a public golf option within the city itself. Its fairways and mature landscape reinforce the green, established character that distinguishes Windcrest from many newer suburban developments.
